Scientists have failed. We've failed astoundingly on a matter of semantics. It's all very natural to make up a unique term when one is lacking: entropy, allele, gas, electron. But when it comes to a scientifically verified fact we choose theory? This word has meaning for non-scientists, and it means "some shit I made up."
Would the word games that Intelligent Design snakes use work on people if we had called a verified theory something else? It could be anything, like...Kotex. Usage: the predominant kotex in biology and species origin is evolution. Now let's see them pull out sentences like "it's just a kotex".
