Obama threads the needle on Iran

In a very Count-of-Monte-Cristo-esque way, the Obama administration has reacted extremely shrewdly to the very possible upheaval of the Iranian government. This is particularly apparent now that the "Supreme Leader" has come out with the desperate attack that the US is meddling in Iranian affairs. Obama, and likely Clinton, smelled this a mile away, and came out with a rather tepid response that specifically mentioned that the US should not want to be seen as meddling. Of course, in the background, the State Department ensured that Twitter put off scheduled maintenance until the Iranian protesters (insurgents?) had gone home for the night.

All the while, Republicans came out to yell at Obama. Why isn't he being forceful? Why isn't he supporting them? Why isn't he reveling in and adding to the theocratic villain's troubles?

Of course, he was. But it takes a strong temperament to do so without coming out and claiming credit for it.
