Engagement Party: The Aftermath

Have we mentioned in this space that we're getting married?

Anyway, Saturday was the engagement party. When we got engaged, within a couple days, Jessica asks "should we do something, like a party?" Little did I know what a fiasco I was agreeing to.

The build up to the party had us trying a variety of tasty desserts, always finding them to be too difficult to scale up for a full party or too fraught with disaster. We eventually just settled on making some delightful meatballs atop some spaghetti tossed in garlic and olive oil. For dessert, we at least went to Marie Callendar for pie, rather than a Costco special (aside: Costco's Key Lime pie is surprisingly gross and slimy. I don't know how you make something so wretched). However, since we were having the party in a house an hour away from ours, there were significant logistical problems. We had to get cream, eggs, etc down to Orange County, pick up a fuckload of ground meat from a specialty meats place in Newport, drive back up and get pies before getting to my Mom's house. From then on I was arms-deep in a meat concoction right up until people actually got there, while Jessica ran around assisting and making the pasta.

But, the party worked out fine. The one actual fuck-up was that we bought a fancy NO2 whipped creamer and didn't put sugar in the cream. That makes something kind of buttery, and not really suitable for application to pies. oh well.

And now I suppose we have to plan some kind of wedding. Bother.
